i need the ignition wiring color codes for a 1985 ford f250 6.9 diesel truck.i broke my ignition switch and am replacing with a generic one and need to know what wires go where.

I sure hope you got the generic switch CHEAP!

Standard Ignition, NAPA and others have direct-fit replacement switches in the $12.00 to $15.00 range.

You can't do much re-engineering for that kind of money!

Or, did you actually break the "yoke" in the steering column that operates the actual switch?

If you are real determined to forge ahead with your "redneck engineering" project, check out some sites that have remote start or alarm wiring directions for your specific vehicle. Likely, they will show MOST of the ignition switch wiring.
