My father passed away suddenly...leaving my mother with a 1963 Mack dump truck (body type TT, GVWR 60,000). She would like to sell it, but we have no idea what it is worth. One fellow said it was rare and worth a lot, someone else told her it was a not rare. Does anyone have any advice, or can you lead me in the direction of someone who may know what she should sell this truck for? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

susan for price,a lot depends on what kind of work has been done to the truck, ie; has the engine been recently overhauled? if so are the recipts for the work done available, also the same applies for the transmission and the rear end [s] what condition is the cab and box in? a pic is worth posting tandem axle dumps range in price from 12,000 for a runner to 25,000 and up for a pretty nice rig,10,000or less if the truck needs major mechanical work or will soon, rusted out body ect isnt worth much |

I"d start with registering on bigmacktrucks.com, a Mack truck site (it should be free); you"ll probably want to post your question on the Antique forum there.
You should post as much info as you can: general desc, how long since ran, how many speeds in trans, Brownie and how many speeds(2nd transmission), how many axles, air or hyd brakes, sizes and brands of tires mounted (printed on sides of tires)--if you have anyone familiar with trucks they can advise.
Trucking is down now with the slowdown (understatement of the year!!) in const etc, unless the stimulus is bankrolling road/street etc const in your area.
Don"t rush; selling an older vehicle is generally a matter of finding someone who really wants one and doing some research to try to establish a value.
There should be some kind of used eqpmt value guide, like for cars, but a 63 is almost certainly one for an enthusiast/collector rather than a general operator, especially if it"s a rarer model.
It"s usually a good idea, if it"s running, to fire it up once a week or so and run the engine for 15-20 minutes, and move it a little, even if just back and forth in the driveway/yard, just to keep everything working. Buyers (in self defense) have to bid low on one"s not running because they can"t tell what"s good and what isn"t. Good luck. |
