I just acquired a 1960 Chevy Viking 60 truck that originally was in my family for farm and business use. I can still faintly see the original lettering painted on the doors. I don't know why, but the tire size ('Tires 8.25-20') was painted on the doors along with the owner's name and truck weight. Anyone know why the tire size was painted on the doors? Was that common at one time?
Thanks. |

My guess is that 7.50x16 would indicate a 3/4 ton. 750x20 would indicate a 1 1/2 Ton, 8.25x20 would indicate a 2 Ton. The state fees based on the truck size. |

Back in the 60's both B.C. and Alberta had the tire size on the registeration. Never saw it painted on the door though. |
