pto problems

i have zetor 5211 tractor that will not engage in the lower position on the pto lever, it will engage in the upper position but do not have remote hydralics. any help will be apreciate!

Not real clear on your problem. Is the pto turning in the upper position? Do you have the pto in gear with the little lever next to the gearshift? The tractor is not supposed to be run for more than a few minutes with the pto lever up because that causes excess wear on the throwout bearing. There should be a red light on the dash with "5Min" on it warning you to lower the pto clutch lever.

I think that tractor has a hydraulic pump in the transmission housing which is run off the independent pto mechanism. It should run whether the pto lever is up or down. If the hydraulics are not working it's possible the clutch is bad. That tractor has the 2 faced clutch arrangement like a lot of older MFs, some Fords, and others. The clutch disc that wears out is usually the one that pulls the tractor not the pto. To check for worn clutch, put pto gearshift lever in gear, engage pto clutch(engine running), put tractor in gear and let foot clutch out. A worn clutch will jerk badly.
Replacement of clutch involves splitting tractor and is expensive.
Another possible reason for hydraulic problem is a clogged filter. I think you take it out from under the tractor, but my Zetor 7711 has a loader and a pump put on the front of the crankshaft. Also check the level and condition of the transmission hydraulic oil and change if dirty. Please post back when you find out something as I would like to know about possible problems on my tractor.

im almost sure the pto lever has been up for more than 5 minutes at a time. does the tractor have to be split to replace this pto throwout bearing? thanks for your reply!

It's the throwout bearing for the whole clutch assembly. I don't think thats your problem, yet. Also,I think the clutch is hydraulic and there should be a master and a slave cylinder. Check oil in master cylinder, look for leaks.
