8360 range command won,t calibrat or drive codes u82 and u87 synchro won,t move or is stuck

Ok, place to begin. two potentiometers on right side of trans, have little 2 bolt steel plates over them, just ahead of the range box controls with solenoids, one or both may be damaged or worn out, check the shaft coming through the side of trans is still connected inside, get 2 new, install, tighten gently only, just barely snug, calibrate and try again
- if no luck, remove floor mat, and center of floor, then top plate of trans, and while running tractor, make sure both shifter rods move back and forth properly, if one is broken or not moving, the synchro is likely done, warning signs would be a ripping and grinding noise during a range shift, the noise sounds bad, and will in time break a shifter rod or fork or both, but sometimes it is just the pin that controls the potentiometer shaft that falls out,
- if it is a synchro, it is shop level work, rip off cab and split rear end off, dismantle and replace as needed, last 2 I did were about $3200.00 bucks or so parts n labour

thanks for the info. i put two new pots in it and no joy so i took cover off the top of the box and the bottom shaft was not moving and was stuck forward so i put in middle and there is no resistance when moveing it i think it might be something to do with the piston or the selector/synchro i will have to lift the cab because it was starting to grind between b and c a good wile ago. if you use the foot clutch it was ok. i don't mind having to rip it because it is a good tractor with high hours and no major break downs

yeah, sure sounds like it broke the fork, and that noise you have had kinda confirms it
if you pull the range box off the side you can look in and see the forks and such, is usually best to replace both synchros when your in there, replace the one fork and the pads on the other, and if there is ANY doubt, replace the shafts, i have seen a couple break, i also like to safety wire the roll pins, had one drop out once
you can do it all from the back with lots of patience, some good thick grease to hold the pair of 1/2 rings in the groove, and about 2 extra hands might be nice, but there is no room for them really, just make sure it is clean where you work in case a synchro flies apart, that way you can find all the parts and put it back together

- Oh yeah, pay attention to what way the reverse gear goes in so you get it facing the right way first time
